Nottactical clueless on dfw code. What was wrong in my statement? I guess not mentioning airguns are exempt from lead free requirements.

Here is a good source of information for starters. Univ Of California
        Ground squirrels
"The California Fish and Game Code classifies ground squirrels as nongame mammals. An owner or tenant can control (“take”), in any legal manner, nongame mammals that are injuring growing crops or other property. Some species of tree squirrels, on the other hand, are classified as game animals (with a hunting season) that cannot be taken without a permit. See the Pest Notes: Tree Squirrels for more information.

No license is required for the management of California ground squirrels if it is the owner or tenant who is taking damaging ground squirrels. A trapping license from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife is required for those who are trapping squirrels for hire or profit."

        Tree Squirrel info

PS A relatively high power break barrel pellet gun (.22 Benjamin Trail II) has proven more than adequate in administering subsonic cerebral lead poisoning to avocado orchard poachers.

Do I have to use lead free ammo? Do I need a hunting license? Thanks for any input.

Since you didn't even bother to read the previous posts, I will repeat them for you. Please read slowly to increase your comprehension level.

In the op's circumstance, no license or depredation permit are required for taking ground squirrels which are causing damage on owner's property.

Refer to irishfisher's post above. He provided a link to his source.
