    Rabbit population can explode with
    A mild winter
    And wet spring

    Lots to eat
    Lots of babies

Family in San Jose have had deer eating lawns all winter. Too dry in the hills for them

I was in San Diego county last weekend. Saw a few in a wilderness area, and saw even more cottons.

Ishootforblood the farmers have been poisoning rabbit for years that's the reasons they don't like the drip lines chewed up the poisoning of rabbits effect the coyotes and the hogs who eat the same stuff , I have to separate and deworm before I harvest for food. I don't like to shoot them and leave them last February we burnt 159 hogs in one month

At the marina we frequent see all manner of critters. Aforementioned rabbits, racoons, opossums. etc. abound. That's midway down the SF Peninsula. Up in the State of Jefferson, furry animals everywhere.

                    Now bees...that's a true problem.

Rabbit populations fluctuate drastically from year to year depending on the rain. It’s been dry for a while. There are little honey holes here and there but statewide the drought is reducing the population of lots of animals. Rabbits included.

On my ranch we don’t really shoot them at all. One here one there if the kids want to get one but the population is controlled by rain and the population swings are still drastic

We see a ton of cotton tails but we have yet to see one jack in the two years we've been here.

That could simply be due to topography and vegetation of the area.

Jacks are open ground critters that rely on their eyes/ears/ AND SPEED for survival.

Cottontail rely on their eyes/ears/AND STEALTH [hiding] for survival.

Jacks avoid hilly, brushy areas that allow predators to sneak up on them.

Cottontails will inhabit both, as long as there is sufficient cover.
