    Hunting License questions

How do hunting licenses work in California? What do they allow you to do?

In several places I have read stories about someone stopped carrying a loaded gun but it was OK because (s)he had a hunting license. This would be particularly useful for backpackers etc tramping around out in the wilds, for protection against wild animals, etc.

    Any advantage to it?

A CA hunting license pretty much only lets you hunt coyotes and ground squirrels. For anything else, you pretty much have to get a stamp or tag.
    Mostly just extra $.
To get a license, you need to go thru a Hunters Safety course.

While there is a provision in the code (penal or F&G??) to allow concealed carry while fishing or hunting - I wouldn't depend upon that!
If you're going where firearms are allowed (and a lot of areas are only allowed in pursuit of game, and many shotgun only) then get a license and open carry.
Coyotes and ground squirrels are always in season and there is no limit.

Every area and jurisdiction has different rules, gotta look up for specifics of where you want to go.
