That is awesome. This month will be my first turkey hunt in SD also. I won't be able to make it for the opener, just hoping they don't all run off to private land and I have a chance. Been doing some escouting at palomar and have so places to try and look

I counted 23 gobs yesterday. I was calling them for fun on my porch as I was looking west. I turned around and 8 Jake’s were 10 feet from me. They never made a sound. Funny as heck.

Can't wait to get out there. I've heard good reports as well. Last season got cut short thanks to Covid. Should be a good year!

I would love to get into hunting, but like everyone, I have no idea where to start. What are some public land areas in Northern California that you can hunt turkey's on?

Knoxville wildlife area, Cache Creek Wildlife area, Mendocino National Forest (any national forest in norcal really), cow mountain, etc. We are blessed in NorCal vs. Socal for public land.

I'll be hunting public land Saturday with a buddy. Trying to get him his first public land bird. I shot one there last year and passed on shots on two trips so expectations are high but it's high pressure spot.

If nothing else, go this Saturday AM and take note where everyone is parked then head back some other time and try your hand. Watching youtube videos can also be a big help. However, there is no better teacher then getting out there and doing it!

I want to try that place out one day. I used to ride up there when I lived in Temecula and had a few close encounters with groups of them on the tight side. but that is all private. I remember whipping around one of the corners and was almost wearing feathers.
                    - The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeanceand furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

Mark's a good caller. He called in a big Tom early but we had no shot. These two came back right before ten bam bam we were done for the day. Thanks Mark. Let's hit it again next weekend for that big ol Tom.

Me and a buddy both dropped nice birds today. Mine had a 8” beard and 1” spurs. I need to work on my turkey pics, I’m a lot better at making fish look bigger. I was surprised #6 hevi shot worked flawless at 30 yards. We also got into some pigs but they gave us the slip as we closed in with rifles.
