    Coyote Hunting

I am interested in getting into coyote hunting. I have been reading through the regulations.. I have not been able to find anything on what you do with them after they are down.

What is the legal requirement to do with Coyotes after a successful hunt?

When I asked the USFS about this in connection with hunting on Forest Service land, they asked me to move the carcass into the brush and away from where it might be seen by hikers. As far as I know there is no requirement to save the meat (coyote jerky jokes aside). You can take the pelt but if you want to sell it, you need a trapping license.

Short answer, you might want to hide the carcass in the bushes unless you're on private land and the owner doesn't care one way or the other.

Its like hunting a rabbit. No tag needed. Clean up after yourself. Don't freak the PETA, Hiker, Hippy crowd, etc. out. If you keep the body, try to conceal it on the ride home so people don't call the cops thinking your stealing a dead city dog.

People who eat them, normally only eat the back legs and the rear back muscle. Pelt is interesting if you want to practice tanning. But only a thick winter coat is worth actually keeping. Rest of the body is normally discarded.

Nothing not a game animal. Leave for predators. Use non lead ammo.

thanks guys for the clarification I know about the lead free requirement and that no tag is required... That is good advice about moving the carcass away from the view of the general public

No tag, but you need a California hunting license. A2

                  No limit either.

There's not going to be much 'general public' in a place where you can hunt.

All you need to do is drag it off the road or trail, if that's where it ends up. Otherwise just leave it.

The scavengers gotta eat and will have that yote devoured in a day or so. And they appreciate the meal.

PCH (Professional Coyote Hunter) is a previous member with what some would describe as a 'checkered past' in CG.

                      His name is Curtis.

He's actually a decent guy and a veteran I hunted with him several times.

I've got a recipe or two, never tried them. I wouldn't mind keeping the pelt from a fuzzy Wyoming coyote.
