    Is CA hunting any good?

Specifically, if you found yourself living in AZ or NV, would you ever make an effort to hunt in CA? (assuming you had the time to go anywhere in the state)

I've been interested in hunting for years and am finally finding myself with time. I'm stuck in CA for the next 10-15 yrs and a lifetime license may make sense. I'm not sure I would buy a license every year, but for number crunching I'm planning on every other year for a license (would probably cheaper to buy annually than a lifetime license).

    BUT...
With a lifetime license you can still hunt in CA if you become a resident of a different state.

So, is it worth visiting CA to hunt?

No. I would head to another state if you want out of those states for hunting.

No, between lead free ammo requirements, heavy hunting pressure and relatively low success rates I would have no reason to hunt Ca after moving out of state.

Depends on how much you want to hunt and where you are located. If you loved deer hunting for example I know AZ has a 1 deer per year limit. I absolutely would consider hunting CA if you move to Yuma or Reno. Tuscon or Ely, not so much. Honestly though, AZ will keep you covered year round with a lot of animals to hunt.

Do you own land or have friends with land? Otherwise good luck hunting public land in CA, hahaha.

I've been up to the El Dorado NF a bunch of times this hunting season. Tons of hunters, no deer anywhere, its like they disappeared.

My neighbor just gave me some delicious venison steaks, he hunts private land in Oroville. Deer feeding on alfalfa fields. You gotta know people if you want to hunt in CA. People that own hundreds of acres with deer on them.

Occasional bear hunt would be about it. If you actually hunt every year, the lifetime will pay itself off in that 10-15 years you're stuck.

Nope, I would never travel to CA to hunt.

Thanks for all the input. Kind of confirmed what I was thinking. Enjoy it while I'm here, but probably no reason to plan to come back.

Yeah, I see more deer in my San Diego spot then I do when I hunt Idaho, Utah and NM many times. Obviously, the bucks are generally smaller but a hunt is what you make it and I love the challenge.
