Drive to barstow and turn right or left. Plant your caller and decoy crosswind in front of you. Hide in the shade of a bush and DONT MOVE and they will come to you. Yotes are very wary and scared ALL the time. Yip to stop and squeeze the trigger. Get out there and get a few!! Bobcats are illegal to shot since the first. SSS. jack rabbits and cottontail rabbits are in season. Take cast iron skillet and enjoy fresh meat cooked on an open fire.

He's a beautiful 'yote, at least I think it's a he. I Also have a female that frequents quite often and she has a beautiful full brown tail.

I get foxes too, they are a lot less sketchy. I can spotlight the fox from my deck and it will roll around and play out there and it doesn't seem to be bothered. Good bear sightings and raccoons of course. I like my private zoo.
This was pretty much my original plan to the letter. I was thinking out by Landers or just past Barstow. But then FlyingShooter brought up just going in my own backyard and I actually felt kind of dense. I have a Jeep that will get me anywhere!Drive to barstow and turn right or left. Anyway, more than anything I just want to be sure I'm in a legal area where it's safe to shoot. Holcomb Valley behind me does get a fair share of off-roaders and campers, I'd feel more comfortable someplace more remote. I'm thinking now on the hills east of Baldwin Lake, there's a road that goes to to Pioneertown and I think that might be a great area.Buy made in USA whenever possible.Comment

You can call and buy the maps from blm only $4.00 a piece with free shipping.
They show very detailed maps of public and private land.Originally posted by smashycrashyDamn, you are right, I suckOriginally posted by OleCussI despise Trump.Comment

So basically any public land it's legal? The only real rules I can find are 150 yards from a building and 150 yards from an established campground, no shooting across the roads. Is it that simple? As far as the maps go I'll just download OnX.
Looks like baiting and spotlighting coyotes is fine.Buy made in USA whenever possible.Comment

Best I could tell from the website it's fine with non game mammals as long as you aren't using dogs.

BINGO, I think you have it. I wouldn’t discount Barstow/Landers, but definitely try your backyard first. I think your game cam on property shows the quality you have in the area. The reality is most Yote kills are inside of 50yrds, so worrying about long shots into crowed camping areas is pretty much nill, just be smart about where you call them and direction of shot. I perfer to use my AR15 for Yotes(accurate & deadly), but you could also use a shotgun with T shot or larger if your worried about stray shots. This was pretty much my original plan to the letter. It’s a tuff call, I’d bet there are lots of coyotes on the road to Pioneertown, but also Holcomb area could be really good too for all the easy food near the campgrounds with trash, etc. As long as you have a hunting license, your good to go for Coyotes in your area. Here is a link to the San Bernardino County shooting map, anywhere is yellow is legal for hunting(Light blue is too for Shotgun), which is pretty much anywhere up and out of the city limits. Definitely get OnXmaps to make sure your not on private property, other than that it’s all national forest, which is perfectly legal to hunt on. Have fun out there!

Don't discount spot (listen) & stalk if you have some room to roam around.
I went out yesterday & had a fun stalk. I had told my wife that I was going to post at one or two spots & didn't plan to walk around much. Those spots didn't work out that day & I ended up covering over 8 miles by sunset. A pair busted me at just under 200 yards away after closing the gap from about half-mile. Oh well. It was a lot of fun to try.Comment
