Well it is fishing and fishing has never been a guaranteed sport. They do it to get customers. Just like a store will put up to 80% off and when you get there it is all crap. I usually call the port I am going out of and talk to a deck hand to get his honest catch count for the day prior.

That's why they call it fishing and not catching!

Who knows. But it for sure works for their business. I stopped trusting the fish count a long time ago.

They can't put 0 and expect business to show up. You have got to make it look good.

it depends what you want info on, be specific i can probably dig up the info on whatever your target species is. the little bit i posted earlier is pretty much whats going on right now, which isnt too much. bass are starting to warm up and congregate were seeing calicos in their spawning colors and the sandbass are begining to congregate for the prespawn. its just that time of the year, transitions suck.

ill talk to the office and see if i can arrange any sort of discount for calgunners

well reports are submitted by captains and not drafted by the landings. count accuracy varies from captain to captain. some counts are heavily inflated some are dead on accurate its really difficult to decipher what counts are legitimate. a good rule of thumb is to look at a count and drop the number by 5-10% it gives you a general idea of whats going on should the numbers be inflated.

however there is a flip as fish counts only apply to legal fish so there are many times where a boat goes out and has an excellent day on borderline short fish only to turn in a low count.

the best advice i can give you is watch the counts and do a fish per person count. when the count exceeds 4 fish per person you can expect to catch 15-25 fish per trip given you are very familiar with the target species (this applies to inshore fishing bass, cuda, bonito, etc.) if you know what your doing you can expect to have a good day on the water. watch the deckhands follow their directions, they want you to catch fish its how they make their money.

thats the best way to do it. become buddies with a deckhand, dont rely on office information because the majority of the time they dont know whats going on out there. they just spit out what they vaguely here. important tip, anytime your at the landing and looking to buy tackle/gear pull a deckhand aside and ask him for the inside scoop. the office guys are just there to sell you crap and meet the sales quota.
