Bringing deer head back into CA

I've heard conflicting things about it. If I remove all flesh/brain matter from the skull can I bring it back? Officially all I've found is "no skull, just antlers". Anyone have experience with it?

    No skull seems pretty clear.

You're right. Is anything "pretty clear" in this state though? At least now people with the same question can find this thread in perpetuity online. Maybe it'll help keep CWD out of the state a tiny bit longer.

^^ Sounds like you do that to bring above items back! (LOL)I have been hunting in New Mexico and bringing elk back without the unlawful items for 15 years. Only takes a couple hours to break an Elk down. Less for deer or antelope.

Hell; I fully butcher, pack, stack, and freeze my deer and antelope before I bring it home. Makes it easy to fit more deer in a single cooler (especially with little 1 and 2lb squares of ground meat)!

If I score early I have it processed in Albuquerque if not I have it done here. I butcher my own hogs.

The best way to transport is to buy an extra seat on the airplane and carry it on with you. Leave the fur, eyes etc in tact. Tell everyone it's your emotional support deer.

I brought a cow skull with some hide still attached in my carry on bag once. I was disappointed they didn't even look closer at it after it went through the xray.
