If you think that you might ever hunt out of state, don't lose that.
Some states require proof that you have taken a Hunter's Safety course to get a licence.

At your age most states do not require hunter safety. I have not been asked in a long time. 20 plus years.

The key word here ^^^ is most.

I'm roughly the same age as the OP and I looked into some hunts in different states a few years back and in some I would have been required to take it over again.

For myself and I'm guessing the OP as well we would have to have proof of hunter education in Colorado.

Colorado law requires that anyone born on or after January 1, 1949, complete an approved hunter education course before applying for or buying a Colorado hunting license. Colorado Parks and Wildlife Hunter Education Courses, led by certified volunteer hunter education instructors and/or CPW staff, are offered throughout the state year round.

^^ My last hunt in Colorado was 2012 this hunter safety requirement must be after that. My ca license has statement hunting license issued in 2010 satifies hunter safety requirements.I thought op got his in 69 that should make him 60 plus years old I am 68. I have hunted all those states and never supplied or was asked for hunter safety.
              Going back to 1975.

Just for the record guys. I was able to scan the credit card sized certificate and email it to Sacramento. Within one day my GO ID was updated to show I am eligible to purchase a CA hunting license and shows my HSC number and date, Sept. 1969. I was quite surprised that a Ca. state office could function that efficiently.

Now having said that I would probably re-take the course along with my adult son as it is he who has re-ignited the flame to hunt.

You should be able to sit in on a class. No need to take the test again.

Thank you for that. I will inquire.
