I have a black diamond revolt. Comes with 3 rechargeable AAA batteries and can run off alkaline if needed. Cam charge the rechargeable in the light.

Endless brightness options, red light, single button operation. Also has a lockout to prevent it turning on in your pocket. Small housing.

Only issue is it can take time to learn all the different presses using a single button.

Flashlight or head lamp? Do they hunt in one of the 2 areas where a light can be mounted to the rifle or will it be strictly handheld? Full blown flagship model or one with enough features & ability to get it done? Not trying to get carried away, but it makes a difference how it will be used as well as what "package" you would need.

I was talking to him and he mentioned a weapon mountable light if possible just to get the job done, red and green light.

If you can afford it, this is "THE" setup.

The A67IC 3-in-1 Night Hunting Gun Kit features a patent pending 3 color in 1 center axis rotary knob, full intensity control light that has extreme range.

I used mine again this last Friday night and was reminded how much I love it!!! It will do everything you need it to do. I'll explain how.

The 3-in-1 color is the most brilliant design ever. And their patented design really does hold beam centers when you change, just like they advertise. The advantage to three colors is that if you can't tell if it's a kit fox or gray fox you can switch to a super bright white light in one second and tell instantly and take or hold the shot while it is still temporarily blinded. The white light also comes in very handy when trying to recover a downed predator as well.

Besides the 3-in-1 color you can also control both light intensity as well as beam focus. Nice and wide for close quarter action like orchards or focused beam for open fields. And the focus range is relatively quick so you don't have to twist all night long to get from one to the other. And the included rubber halo ring keeps the light from reflecting on your barrel, but also removable in case you want to use it off the gun.

As another added bonus, they have redesigned the mount used to hold it on the scope. Not only is it much more solid, but it also is QD now. The HUGE advantage to this is not only quicker setup and breakdown, but if you wanted to you can zero the beam, then remove it and use it by hand (with the QD mount on) to get to where you are going, then put it back on at the stand and still be zeroed. You can also remove after one is downed, use it in whatever color you want to find it, then put it back on and still be zeroed for your next stand. You can't say that about any other light out there.

To say I love this setup would be an understatement, as you can obviously tell. But even if you don't end up with this particular light, make sure you look at one that has an intensity control and beam focus at MINIMUM and go from there.

The possibilities are endless. I prefer a headlamp and a small pocket sized led hand size light for checking where the headlamp wont cut it.

I use Night Eyes. Red/white headlamp and red weapon light that I use as a hand held.

Great customer service. I'm sure wicked is great as well.

You may want to be sensitive to what's allowed in the California. Keep in mind, a hunting lights means you'll be using it for hunting so it must comply with CA Fish and Wildlife regs. You didn't mention if it was for deer or not, so I'm assuming you mean for furbearers and nongame mammals.

hand-held or worn on the head are permitted.
                  (b) Persons using such lights must be on foot.
                  (c) Lights may not be used in or from a vehicle and may not be attached or powered from any source other than self-contained batteries.
                  (d) A landowner or tenant suffering damage to livestock or other property by furbearing mammals or nongame mammals may designate, in writing, persons allowed by such landowner or tenant to use artificial lights in excess of 9 volts to assist in taking the depredating mammals. The landowner or tenants shall notify the closest fish and game office whenever furbearing or nongame mammals are taken under this authority.
No furbearing or nongame mammals including any threatened, endangered or fully protected species may be taken contrary to any other prohibition set forth in these regulations.

Certificate of Compliance as to 6-24-85 order transmitted to OAL 9-30-85 and filed 11-1-85.
