There is no hope for the Salton Sea.

What they are doing is an attempt to ameliorate a potential public health and food production catastrophe.

In the article they describe the dust as potentially "lung damaging"......

    ya think?

what from a century of human waste, heavy metals, toxins so hazardous industry can't use them here so they went just over the border to build machiadoras, use them there and dump the waste into the New River and on to the Salton Sea?

If they reduce the drain water going in the shore will dry and dust will go friant.

if they use the waste water to support a ring of wetlands it will reduce drain water going in to the Sea.

To make it work will require water from the Colorado.....Mexico's water.

Do you think anyone has the stones to use Mexico's water? even as the New River still flows north?

The fix is mechanically the easiest thing in the world but would take time.
There is a weir that opens to the New river bed just west of Calexico,
Dam the New River at the border,
open the weir good to flush what it can through, maintain water level in the Sea by that weir and use all tile drain water to support the wetlands.

That part has already been done accidentally on the Arizona side in Mexico and it created such a lush wetland they didn't even want the desalinization plant put back online.

What do you call the people that abandoned the agenda of John Kennedy and adopted the agenda of Lee Oswald?

    Pronouns: "Dude" and "Playa".
