I didn't make opening day this year but this morning I shot a huge mallard drake and a hen at Grizzly Island. They were circling up above my spread and I called them down with a hail call. As they got closer I hid in the blind making feed calls until I heard them land on the water. Then I popped up and pelted them with 3 1/2 inch 2 shot from my Benelli Supernova. I probably could have taken at least 2 other birds but I let the excitement of the first day out in the field this season affect my judgement and fired on at least two birds way too soon. Don't worry pictures are comming as soon as they're developed and scanned; I refuse to take my digital cam with me in the field so I use disposible cams.

For some reason this year I've been getting a ton of Grizzly Island reservations so if any of you guys from the Bay Area or NorCal want to get in there lemme know because going solo just isn't as fun as partnering up.

On a sidenote I've been toying with the idea of replacing my current spread (12 mallards and 6 pintails) with a 6 mallard super magnum spread for higher visibility and faster mobility. On many of the wildlife preserves mobility is everything (well that and patience).
