All Outdoors article Glock 20 vs Bear

When a New Mexico hunting guide reportedly found himself the target of a bear, he dropped his phone and reached for his pistol. It would turn out to be one of the best decisions he ever made. An earlier decision, though, threatened to cost him his life. He’d been working out his dogs in preparation …

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

Guy definitely got lucky. Think his choice of ammo was the problem. Bullets designed to stop a man is different than deep penetrating ammo designed to stop dangerous four legged animals. Critical duty reads as great self defense round but hollow points are definitely not for pissed off bear fighting for its life. Deeper penetration is needed. Think Lehigh Penetrator

In the gel test I’ve seen the Lehigh did well but hardcast lead did better.

That is the most excitement I’ve read in quite awhile. I do not have a 10mm, but this account makes me consider one (properly loaded of course) over my S&W 460. Over twice as many rounds if needed. Yes, I know, shot placement beats round count, but under extreme stress you don’t always get perfect shot placement.
Life was simpler, and more honest, when revolvers and lever actions were the rule.

F'kn-A. +1 for 10mm Glock. Almost never leave home without it.
