    BLM Hunting Protocol

I'm a long-time hunter (AL & TX) but just started back after moving to CA a few years ago. I'm looking to go to IV for some dove this year.

I know about the IV upland game field. (I think I must witness that once in my life. Must be insane to watch.)

I notice a LOT of BLM land kind of near the canals. I'm guessing it's huntable for birds and coyotes?

Is the IID lands legal to hunt?

Just a CA hunting noob trying to get some questions answered.

Unless it has a sign saying no hunting or no trespassing it's pretty much good to hunt. Clean up after yourself. Have fun.

Check out the Dfg website a week before opener and it will give the public fields for this year, also the fields change over the years, so a field that was great last year might not be listed this year, but is still holding game, hint hint. Check the Wister Unit, they have open fields that are less crowded, lead free shot required.

Book a hotel now, it's hot as hell out there. Also look up Jim Mathews , Outdoor News Service, he gives free dive guides each year, probably last year's still up.

Also opening day is where it's at, come day 2 there will be 1/4 the hunters and 1/4 the birds.

If the IV hotels are all booked, you're welcome to pm me if you'd like to hunt with some other guys around Blythe on opening day. We're mostly experienced hunters, ethical, and have a lot of fun.

I booked a couple of rooms in Blythe earlier this week and some singles were still available here and there.

IV is good dove hunting and yes opener is something everyone should experience. we hunt IV opener every year. if it isn't posted have at it. if it is posted don't press it, there is TONS of dove in IV. IV is very open to hunters, no need to piss off farmers. pick up you shells and other people's. you will get a limit and have a blast.
