The bite is almost always on for rockfish, lings are day by day. The only thing that turns off a rockfish bite is a earthquake (weird but true), large groundswell or jellyfish/bait swarms. I live in Morro and recommend the Endeavor as one of the better boats. Pony up the money and do a long range or full day trip for bigger fish. The trips really vary these days from shallow water to super deep so if you have a preference be sure to ask but the guys in the office generally don’t know a thing but talk a good game. The white feather shrimp flys out fish any of the other colors. Use squid cut into a fluttering strip for best results. Black and purple or Halloween color for swim baits. Orange or black and purple for iron. I use 50lb braid with 15-20lb fluro topshot. If you got any questions I spent 7 years working the sport boats out of Morro.

            Yeah, i got a question.

Just generally whats up with the white sea bass as a fishery?
a couple of summers ago there was a real good bite due i'm told to a squid cycle but were those fish that were just keying/ following the squid?

Is there a growing, fishable population coming up that far north?

I hear things about even in the San Francisco bay but it's kinda code group stuff.

WSB fishery is coming on STRONG! It’s taken off down south and has been moving up north for years. It’s been epic around the central coast. Often the fish are just missed since they are not being targeted by the hook and line guys up here that much. However divers and spearfishermen have been seeing lunkers. They move frequently and can be picky biters which is actually a good thing for their recovery. I see no downturn any time soon in their population, just massive expansion.
