    Salmon/steelhead 8.6-10’ M or ML with a 1500 or 2500 when I’m in the surf.
A heavy action when I’m on the rocks.

When I want to have fun I use my 11.6’ ultra light. That thing literally bends in half when I get a 8” or bigger perch.

I also like walking the beach casting for hours until I locate a school of perch or stripers.

The guys who use surf spikes are generally going for surf perch. Sometimes they are targeting sharks or rays.
Thanks for your opinion. You right, I currently have a good setup. The reason that I want a new rig is that I must force my reel into the rod and I love getting new fishing equipment.

I'm thinking of purchasing a 3000-ish size reel for my Gx2 and a 12ft pole for my Battle 6000.

Also, I am open to change the line weight and open to new suggestions for rigs. I'm currently using 10p pound mono. I not a huge fan of braid b/c of rat nesting every time I cast.

That should give you two good outfits for a variety of fishing options.

I use 30#Power Pro Spectra braid because it works well for both perch and striper fishing. When fishing perch, I use a 4 foot mono leader. If I run into stripers, I just cut off the leader and tie on a popper. With braid, you can still get plenty of line on the reel when using heavier pound test on a lighter setup.

When I first switched to braid, I also had birds nest problems. I found using a heavier braid with Spectra coating reduced this greatly. I also found it was critical to not overfill the spool. Be sure to leave about 1/8" of unfilled spool.

I have never had a problem with braid, but I usually have the tackle shop spool it for me.
