Palomar Mt. Access East Side None

Just got back from skunked out scouting trip. Teaching my oldest son to hunt and want to get ready for his week off soon so we headed out at 4am to scout out areas in the Palomar Mt.
1st stop was off Oak Grove Rd in Aguanga and that and everything else going back to Temecula was no access. Bummer!
I live in Menifee and want to start him on Coyote and Jack Rabbit.

Any suggestions for an area around here. We also have tried Ortegas but not in a few mos.

I rather a desert more than anything.

    Any suggestions much appreciated.

Try the foothills of mt san jacinto. Only a 30 minute drive from you and plenty of rabbits and coyotes. Its in the san bernardino national forest. Try rouse hill rd. Its right behind scranton ranger station and it takes you up the backside of little thomas mountain. Make sure you are using a truck.

U need the national forest lands pass which u need it for any national forest. If you got one for clevela d nagional forest then it will be good for all the national forests in southern cali. And there are only 2 houses back there and most of the time you will be the only one up there. Ive always hunted it and never had a problem.

I have the Atlas so I should be be able to find the private property. Thanks for the suggestions. Any particular area you like or how far in. I wanted to get on the Palomar Divide truck trail where it splits with Barker Valley Spur. It looks like there is a valley there for a good stand.

San Felipe Wildlife Area is nearby. Check it out on the DFW website.

Highly recommend the OnX app, whows you who owns what everywhere in California.

Downloaded the App. Pretty good. Is this San Felipe open year around? Have you hunted there?

Got that. My son has 30-30 lead free and .22. Not taking the .7mm don't want the law to think I'm hunting dear out of season or without a tag but we will bring the pig tag just in case but that's a 1 and a million out there I know.

lead free for shotgun only unless on state lands small game mammals and non game mammals. Blueman should read the regs.

You can bring whatever gun you want that's center fire for hogs.

I'm not giving up lead till 2019.

Thanks for info. So many laws. Easier when I was a kid and Dad just gave me a gun and said 'Shoot that'

Not that hard, you need to understand the state laws and codes that pertain to firearms, shooting, and trespassing, state game regulations, and county shooting codes, and if on Federal lands their regulations.

You can see BLM, NFS, etc land overlays for free at this link:

The Department of Fish and Wildlife manages California's diverse fish, wildlife, and plant resources, and the habitats upon which they depend, for their ecological values and for their use and enjoyment by the public.

I posted a topic to aid in searching for puclic lands to hunt:
