    Los Padres D13 zone

    Hi everyone!
I'm a new hunter, last weekend I was scouting around Thorn Meadows Campground looking for some rabbits or wild pig(just if a big luck) but not luck just saw one jack rabbit when backing home.
Maybe some one can give me an advice where is better place for hunting varmints(just for a start).

Work Negro Creek from Piru Creek, and the green stands inside both creeks, look on google maps satalite view. Always double check the area regulations, there's restrictions on shooting near established campgrounds, trails, roads, etc in most NF, sometimes up to a 1/2 mile, and even complete sections of a Forest could be off limits to shooting and hunting. Get away from the well used roads and trails.
    Are you a Russian?

      Yea, I'm )
I use onXMap to avoid private lands and asked rangers about current restrictions - they said that now target shooting is prohibited because of fire level III, all other need to stay away from roads, trails and campgrounds.
Actually I was a little bit south(about 2miles) of cross Forest route 7N03B with Grade Valley(parked a car there)
I saw rabbit's and pig's footprints near Piru creek and deeply in the forest.

You have as much chance of harvesting a pig in that area, as you do of bringing down African big game.

Rabbits, on the other hand, you have a fair to good chance this year along GVR. It's not the best rabbit territory. None of LP's is. But they are there to be had.

Welcome to CalGuns USA. Finding cottontail rabbits is harder than bagging a jackrabbit, better cottontail hunting during the early morning and late evening, they favor thickets and bushy areas, jackrabbits only need to scratch a bed in the ground in the shade of a bush.

Here's a video that shows how to drive a jackrabbit out of a brush stand, kick or shake brush piles and fallen treetops and branches to jump a cottontial.

Stay out of the wooded area, work the brush stands in the dry creek-bed and the riparian zone.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

Hank Shaw supposedly has some really good recipes for jack rabbits. I'll give them a shot before I form an opinion, but have heard many say the same thing.
