Tony, thanks for the tips. Ive only been coyote hunting once and that was in oregon on someones property without hand or electric calls. I saw one each day i was out. First one was next to the house and slipped away trying to rutn the optic on. 2nd day woke up early saw one doe and 3 hours later just as i was about to leave i saw a couote mousin directly infront of me. I had Been scaning constanly without binocs and with. I couldnt believe he was right infront of me. I tried to lip squeak to stop him and should have hollered at him. He slipped behind a mound and thought i would meet him on the otherside. Well he disappeared. Its definetly a challenge he probablygot a wiff of me. Im going to buy a foxpro or a primos alpha dog

T6 yeah i know we have a huge coyote population. My parents live in los alamitos and small pets go missing all the time in the summer. I would love to take some out in my own backyard!

Good idea. I started as a mouth-caller with a Circe jack-rabbit caller. Worked great. Took many coyotes. Until the day I found fresh mountain lion tracks behind me when I got up to move spots. Freaked me out a little. Mountain lions are no joke and will respond to the same calls and jump you and chew you up with no warning.

I've been an E-caller ever since. 100 yards out and a remote with relative safety.

I don't like being on a lower tier of the food chain. We battled our way to the top for a reason!

i got my first call from the five and dime, now it's the dollar store, all it is, is a dog or cat furry squeaky toy, the call is activated by hand, i take the squeeker out and tie the toy to the bush,
i havent called in no mountain lion but a few bobcats

              Still new too hunting

So after taking the coyote, what do you do with the body? Do you sell the fur?

Coyote 101, if a coyote hunter doesn't say what he does with a coyote, don't ask. We are not required to do anything with the carcass, if we choose to we can just drag it out of sight, and we don't have to do that, but it is best to, a self imposed rule for the good of coyote hunting.

You would need a trappers or fur buyes license to sell fur in California. The fur for a prime desert coyote goes for 35-45 bucks, a large lite/pale colored coyote can fetch 50-100 bucks or more. The poster in this topic named Baxter is a professional ADC Trapper.

These coyotes aren't pets, they kill and f-up all kinds of stuff, we are used as a method of control, Coyote Managers. We don't want to wipe them out.

                  JFYI:
Skinning a cold coyote is hard as 7734, not worth 30-40 bucks to me. So if you plan on skinning one do it when the carcass is still hot.
