    New to hunting-thermal sights?

    Hello all.
A coworker of mine is getting me into hunting pigs and coyotes. I've never been attracted (or repelled) by stuff like deer hunting but I'm down to exterminate some pests!

I've got a 6.5 grendel in the works that should donit pretty well but I'm curious about NV in hunting here. As I understand it the P.C. Only prohibits active NV or those with illuminators. If that's correct would thermal scopes be good to go?

I'm probably going to grab a Pulsar RXQ30V regardless, but if I could use if on hog hunts, all the better!

      Really?
Seems it would be the best time for hogs?

There is no night hunting in CA, optics or no optics.

You aren't even supposed to mount a thermal or infrared scope to a rifle. It would be great to use for hogs, but it's not legal in CA.

Pogen, there are areas you can night hunt coyotes, and can even use a light for. It's very uncommon and very limited though, and likely to draw attention.

Depredation permit hunts for pigs allow spotlghting as well.

OK, looks like I need to read the fine print.

This is from a CA Fish and Game post:

"This means using any type of night vision equipment (whether attached to the firearm or not) that uses light-amplifying circuits that are electrical- or battery-powered to assist in the taking of birds, mammals, amphibians or fish is strictly illegal, even when hunting nongame animals".
Hunting at night is strictly prohibited in 99% of situations in CA.
                            That said...
Please help me understand where thermal imaging, a technology that detects heat, not light, would be prohibited from the DFW definition of night vision.

You can hunt coyotes at night in areas where deer season isn't open. I'm not sure why so many are saying its totally prohibited. I've done it. However, you have to use a non-weapon mounted light. You can't use NV.
