Interested in predator hunting - areas surrounding Sacramento

Looking to possibly do some predator hunting with my son this year, but not sure where to begin. (I've got an e-caller and decoy.)

Already searched here on CG but couldn't find much regarding my region. Anyone have any advice for public land areas within 1 hour or so of Sacramento for calling in predators, primarily coyotes? Thanks.

I don't think that you can hunt predators at the Oreville State Wildlife Area, it is shotgun only, deer, upland, small game, hogs, turkey, etc.

The Department of Fish and Wildlife manages California's diverse fish, wildlife, and plant resources, and the habitats upon which they depend, for their ecological values and for their use and enjoyment by the public.

Oh and DFW and the BLM have headquarters in Sacto, take you son on a trip there, I think the USGS has an office there too, good for maps or just touring.

i would wait until all this rain and flooding stop But the only place I can think of would be the forests or blm lands.

Nice racks are much better. You can grab both sides of the rack to help stabilize while mounting.

The eldo is pretty much lousy with them your'e trying to hunt deer but my guess is that that isn't much food up there for them now.

After things start trying to have babies in the spring they will be there for sure.

I'm seeing more and more coyotes on the move. A puma can leep 40 feet down down from a tree without injury.

Try the ranchers in the Plymouth area. Not much pressure there and lots and lots of fairly large cattle/sheep ranches. DFG might have a few names and numbers for you to call. Might even afford yourself a turkey hunt, or two. The ranches closer to Sac are already "taken" by predator hunters.
