Newport Beach Fishing Charters - Pricing and Duration ?

It's been a long while since I went on one of these trips. I only found one that had pricing and it was $550 for a half day. Whoa.

I want to take my adult son on a Tuna trip (terminology? ) and was stunned. Also, 1/2 day, when I did it was a waste of money, not many fish that close to NB. I have done the 1 1/2 day, but got skunked. Actually, was skunked on the 4 trips I did ever go on. Tiny flounder, mackerel that the deck hand promptly cut into bait.. argh

I am trying to get up to speed, and my Goggle Fu is letting me down.

Pricing, suggestions on duration (to get a decent fish... )

Thanks, I totally missed that. I didn't want to muck up the other threads with a simple pricing question.

      Thanks a lot

For tuna I'd go out of SD.

If you guys get great fishing locally again (a big if even though it's been fantastic the last 2-3 years), you may find something out of Newport that will get some yellowtail or maybe even some tuna.

But SD will almost always be a better bet for pelagics IMO.

          Head to SD for sure.

If you want the whole boat to yourselves, and it needs to be in Orange County, you'd want to look at One Man Charters with Brandon Hayward, or Bongos Charters.

Tuna have been within eyeball distance of the coast of OC the past couple years, but mainly at San Clemente Island and the 43 high spot, which are each about 60 NM from the beach. Some spots of fish were closer (<12 NM), but you had to be on them at a moment's notice to have a chance at getting bit which doesn't work well with a charter scheduled out weeks or months in advance. A 1/2 day trip probably won't get you what you want.

As DHMike said, San Diego gives you more options and more chances of success. I'd look to Seasons Sportfishing for their experience and accommodations. Late June to September is a good window to shoot for.

Save yourself some grief (and $) and book with one of the San Diego boats. better boats, limited loads and professional crews. here's a link to one of my favorite boats. Mark is a great guy and they have the best food in the fleet...bar none. You can browse their schedule by clicking at the top of the page. Were already booked for 3 days in July.I'm not affiliated with these folks, just a satisfied customer.

I makes sense, especially if the boat is going South.

Just have to coordinate with my son's schedule.

Also, FYI .. Check Groupon(I think that is it)

My buddy scored us a 3/4 day out of Huntington beach, 6 guys max on the boat, so we have the whole boat to ourselves and it was like $500 or $550.

Good Luck ... and tight lines.

As said above, San Diego is the place too fish out of. Your chances of catching fish are greater. Of coarse they call it fishing "Not Catching".
