Last month i was in the hills riding my quad with some friends just screwing around, 3 guys come up in a beat up POS pickup with the bed /hood converted for dogs for hunting bear/pig/cats/whatever... all 3 looked like they had sex with their mom, and there was no doubt in my mind these guys poach bear, probably for the bladders, so they can have a income other than collecting welfare. You know how you can just tell some people are shady? Thats the feeling we all got, but anyway, they stopped and asked us if they saw any dogs, and that they lost 2. They had the antenna for the radio freq collars hanging out the window, and we heard em driving around slow for a bit before we took off. We got a real strange vibe off them. Every time we asked a question they were real evasive, and didnt want to tell us anything..then they contridicted themselves.. they were up to something shady.

Bobcat is in season. Not many bears moving this time of year and they are out of season. They could have been running a lion.

Got no love for the big cats, so that doesen't bother me one bit if thats what they were doing.
The thing that pisses me off is how can DFG have no season for mountain lion when the mountain lion is the only animal around here that has NO natural predaters? I dont get it at all. But then again, their gonna cancel salmon season again and screw us, but its still ok in the delta and the indians can keep all the gill netting going all they want. Makes no sense.

I know I am new here but I do want to say something about some of the negative talk about hunting with dogs. Please don't talk trash on someone else's hunting method. All hunters should support other hunters regardless of method (as long as it is legal) as well as all other shooting sports.

We all should support other methods of hunting such as with dogs or birds of prey or we may all loose. It's like some bowhunters that think that shooting with a gun is not sporting or some guys thinking that taking a 500 yard + shot is not challenging.

Drove my 40,000 dollar truck to the ranch drove around on my 7,000 dollar quad. Spotted these using my 60 power swarovski ST80 and 10X ELs then shot them with my 4,000 dollar custom 300WBY mag. Fair chase baby!

Damn man what happend to the other truck you had like that? It was charcoal/metallic green or something. That was a sweet rig.

Who cares how pigs are hunted. They shouldnt be here anyways. I dont see why we cant hunt them at night or use feed. I probably wouldnt do it but i wouldnt judge the person that did.

I've always been of the mindset that trophy photos should be staged to afford the the greatest dignity to the game. Try to make them look like they're asleep.

Putting in a stick to prop open the bear's mouth and photos with the grass and twigs coming out of a pig's mouth is poor photography IMO.

I've always been of the mindset that trophy photos should be staged to afford the the greatest dignity to the game. Try to make them look like they're asleep.

Putting in a stick to prop open the bear's mouth and photos with the grass and twigs coming out of a pig's mouth is poor photography IMO.

In Europe it is common to put grass in the mouth of dead animals as a sign of respect, (their last meal, so to speak).

I usualy try and clean the blood off the wound fix the eyes and tongue if it is hanging out. But sometimes you know you have a long walk ahead of you or a lot of skinning to do. And just take a couple of quick pics.

Finally got my second pig and first ever with a rifle. Weighed about 175lbs.
I spotted it at over 700 yards walking across a ridge and stalked to within 23 yards and found it asleep. It was kind of weird as it looked like a rock out of place and I could see the ears, closed eyes and nose with the Leica range finder but when I threw the scope on it I really couldn't tell. I kept the scope on him for about 10 minutes waiting for my hunting friend who kept going up the hill (he didn't see it). In anycase, he came across a nice boar weighing about 350lbs and took his shot at 35 yards. When he shot, mine jumped up and began to run and I shot him at 20 yards. Couldn't tell if I hit him or not as there was no indication or blood so I ran up the hill to see if could get another shot. By the time I saw him he was already rolling. Still went 100 yards or so.

Congrats on your piggie. Ive had friends that have literally walked right up on them while they were sleeping. Pretty crazy. Where were you guys hunting at?
