Opening day of A-zone, legal shooting hours was 0554. I shot this buck at 0603 with my Weatherby MK V .270 Win with a Barnes Vortex 130 gr TTSX at 540 yards.

Not my buck, but my buddy shot this one this morning. I spotted it on a ridge above an olive orchard. Three days into hunting season and my vacation and we have two deer down. Gonna take a couple days off to chase some fish, them back at it.

Went rabbit hunting for the first time on Saturday. After getting my swing down, I managed to bag 2 cottontails. Saw 4 others and a few Jacks, but wasn't able to get a good shot off on them. Can't wait to head back out again!

Where in California did you hunt those? I had a great hunt on cottontails last week also. For me, the best way to cook them is low and slow style. I usually to braise them. Otherwise they will turn out tough and chewy

Ended up soaking the meat in brine for about 24 hours, putting some flour and spices on and frying it up. Turned out pretty good.

I hunted them in the San Bernardino Natl Forest. I've been hiking and driving the Jeep all over the place there for years, and now I'm starting to hit different spots where I've seen bunnies. I'm hoping to get out there again next weekend to bag a few more.
