    Dog decoying coyotes

I went out last Sunday and did some calling I took my Queensland healer as a decoy.I have been taking her hunting with me since she was a pup and now she knows the drill. On my first stand playing rabbit distress I had one run right in and my healer chased that one off .I did have problems with the caller loose battery once I turned the caller back on it came in again and just stair from 120 yards off so I plugged it with the 260.
During my 4th stand I has a pair and after some work had them both coming in to fight playing pup distress. My dog had them both on her but each one chased her separately she handled them real well. When they started to leave the male stopped 100 yards off and turned to look back that gave me a chance to shoot and my dog was out of the way.
Found a problem with the 95 gr vmax in 6.5 mm if you do not push them they do not expand I looked all over for that coyote and finally found it 50 yards away in cover the bullet penciled right threw. It was fun watching the coyotes try and kill my dog lol .

Nice racks are much better. You can grab both sides of the rack to help stabilize while mounting.

Ever seen a yote with the nose chewed off and half its face ripped off.....no good for public PR but the ranchers love it!

Does your dog find dens? That's a lot of fun but two dogs really helps......but I bet the fur on the heeler keeps from getting any injuries.

Send me your email I have a PDF from a Ph.D. Bio that's great info on decoy dogs on Yotes it covers everything

I was thinking of the ones you shot. Do you call or run them down with grey hounds ? That's a whole different way of hunting them I am not into that type of hunting yet.
Called this one in Monday morning before work with my old fox pro caller the Spitfire..Follow up shots with the Ar is handy.

How fast are you pushing that round? I would think the 95gr in the .260 has the potential to move pretty quick.

If I spot them from the road I let the dogs go and at least one of them will Yelp and draw the attention of the yote then it's on. At first the yote thinks it's an easy meal then when they get there it's a tumble or two then the yote is on the run. I'll either zap the dogs back then I'll take a shot or let them take the yote down.

Or I do like you and make a stand and call with one dog at my side. Normally they spot the yote or hear them before I do and if they smell one they start yelping and are off.

I've had a few close calls one time the dogs lured in 7 yotes at one time. Luckily I was near the truck and tossed the bow in the back and grabbed the shot gun. Shot two that time at 10 yards as the dogs jumped in the truck the rest of the yotes ran for the hills howling & barking the entire way. It was pretty crazy turning around with the shotgun racking a round and see 7 yotes putting on the brakes and then not knowing if it was my dogs that jumped in the truck or a yote

I run my shiba/GSD mix. I put a reflective vest on him at night so he lights up from my red light.

Here is my friend and hunting partner's coyote dog:

Bring hay for my horse....wine for my men....and mud for my turtle!

What do you hear ???...... Nothing but the rain. Well grab your gun and bring in the cat.

MJB that must have been a blast to have that many coyotes in at once .
The 95 vmax are going around 3100 from published data. I am going to load them to max load and see what happens.

What helped me train my healer was the experience she got from being in contact with coyotes. I live on a family dairy farm and almost every night she is in the alfalfa field chasing coyotes off. I got tired of it and one night shot one between the eyes lol. My goal is to get some video of here decoying coyotes.
