One more reason why California hunting sucks!

We all know we spend a fortune on hunting and fishing licenses here and it seems to increase every year. Then being that California is so tech savvy we now just swipe our drivers license for the required info on the hunting/fishing license. Yet they cannot send out the hunting regulations and draw pamphlets to your home.
Yet you go hunt out of state in Colorado, Wyoming and Arizona you get said info mailed to your home address.
We'll just give them the 'ol number 6.

$$$$. Why waste postage stamps when they can increase our fees.

What about never getting a years worth on your fishing license unless you buy it January 1.

Yeah this is my pet peeve too.

Now that the system is digitized, there is absolutely no reason to still have a Jan 1st - Dec 31st system still in place.

I got a lifetime license with lifetime bird privilege...the one and only reason is that I'm good at math.

Given the historical license fee increases, I should start coming out ahead in 11 years (if memory serves correctly). If they ramp up steeper than they have been it pays off sooner.

I'm considering gifting my son a lifetime license as well. If either of us moves away the license is still valid.

I might still grab a D8/D9 tag for poops and grins, but if I really wanna kill deer I go somewhere else (like Kansas). 200 pounds of filleted grain-fed goodness in the freezer this winter (and I hafta visit the in-laws anyway)...

Yes there is - by their own admission in a Western Outdoor News article last year - they will loose money if they go to a system based on one year from purchase.
Never mind that they have been loosing thousands of people a year for decades, they just up the price every year to make up for lost sales. The whole DFW is corrupt...

What irritates me is they don't print the season dates ON THE TAG!

They issue you this tag as long as your arm will all kinds of crap written on it, but one of the most important pieces of info a hunter should have easy access to is the effective dates of his tag.......but no.....cant print that out on the tag. Pretty much every other gov't issued item that expires has the expiration date printed on it......but nope.....not your hunting tag, a violation of which could land you a misdemeanor.

Its almost like they do it on purpose!

That's the real sad part. It's way cheaper to buy a non resident elk tag in Colorado than wait forever buying California resident licenses and tags for the hopes of getting drawn.

$49. Just read it in my Coloardo guide that came in the mail this week.

Add in you may die, having never drawn. Just go drop $25k on a Tule Elk Bull hunt and be done with it.

If I were to buy a 'Life-time hunting license', I feel certain that California would outlaw hunting all together within 3 years
