Obviously, I'm against killing mountain lions, but, I would like to know from the humans that do choose to hunt them; do you have scientific proof that you can cite here that justifies your decision to hunt them?

Hey mods. How about a ban here for this yokel? It's one thing to argue about hunting amongst hunters, but this is ridiculous.

But in the meantime I will bite. You good sir are taking information from anti hunting organizations. These groups will taylor their information to fit their narrative. States that have let biologists manage their wildlife through hunting have a much better balance of wildlife than this state in particular. Let's look at the California mountain lion. they are protected. Yet the state of California traps and kills almost as many as hunters did before the ban out of necessity because lions are decimating the deer populations and turning to livestock. Look at the California black bear. They banned the use of hounds for bear and the number of bears and bear problems have increased. The numbers of bears was actually increasing anyway and the state was going to expand the bear quota anyway but didn't because anti hunting animal rights groups influence them so much. Take the coyote. Their numbers are as high or higher than any previous study. Hunting has had zero effect on their numbers. Yet anti hunting groups like project coyote are pushing for limits or outright bans on hunting them simply because they think they are pretty. All this protection for certain species regardless of science simply knocks out the balance of those not protected. Why not ban all of hunting and let the animals balance themselves? Because nature cannot balance itself in an industrialized world with people, agriculture, habitat loss, roads, cities and suberbs. One population of animals will multiply while consuming others until one species collapse will collapse the other. This is why mountain lions are eating more pets and why bears are eating out of trash cans. Coyote populations are flourishing because their prey is flourishing off of agriculture. With drought and other conditions constantly changing the only method to provide a balance is through hunting. Right now we are seeing huge declines in prey type species because of the drought and huge populations of predators because of hunting restrictions not made by science but by emotion. The answer is not to restrict hunting on any species by its cuddliness factor, But to increase bag limits and open seasons on all species that are out of balance. Looking at each species and setting appropriate hunting quotas will keep a healthy balance for all species and generate income for habitat restoration (if California actually used those funds as they were intended) making an even better state for its wildlife. Hunters have brought back numerous species back from the brink of extinction like elk, turkeys, ducks ect by turning their hunting dollars into conservation. It's a simple fact. Banning a single species from being hunted for no scientific reason simply ties the hands behind the backs of wildlife management as a whole.

If you talk to wildlife biologists they will tell you that they need to be hunted in order to have a proper balance within nature. Because of civilization and all the changes we have made to the environment, "letting nature sort it out on its own" is actually more harmful to wildlife.

Do not crap on my thread. I've asked a reasonable question for you hunters - can you cite scientific studies that refute what HSUS is saying? This thread pertains to hunting and is not breaking any rules.

NO, you asked Hunters to sign a petition to ban the hunting of a species.

I question the validity of the HSUS study.

With the amount if infrastructure and farming that we humans have created it is important that we manipulate wildlife populations. Its simple as that. Thousands of years ago maybe it wasn't needed, but not today.

If you are looking for "proof" its not there, as "proof" is subjective. There is overwhelming empirical evidence though that disagrees with your position though.

Glockman, did you not read my entire initial post? Cmon man, if you can give me actual scientific research and documentation that is cited, I may be swayed.

By the way the HSUS is an extremely biased organization.

So do I. That's why I want to know if there's anything out there that can refute it.

Actually he didn't ask anyone to sign a petition . He asked for Calgun hunters perspective on the whole issue. I bet you guys could sway him but not with the comments you've made.

Q: What was the most positive result of the "Cash for Clunkers" program?
A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.
