Met my father, father-in-law, and wife's cousin in Bay City, TX for a guided cast & blast with Coastal Wings. I'd recommend this guide to anyone interested in teal, duck, dove, goose, gator, pig, bobcat, etc - they do it all. Nice lodge, experienced guides, great food.
Our first 2 days (Fri/Sat) were slow due to 85-90*F temps by 8am but Sunday we got a small cold front and ended up 1 short of a 4-man limit (23 total birds in 2 hours, 1 unfortunately thrown away due to fire ant infestation). Saturday afternoon we went fishing in Matagorda bay and caught a bunch of speckled trout and drum (delicious).
1 year ago my father was undergoing cancer surgery and we agreed as soon as he was healthy enough we would be out hunting. He was definitely still reeling from chemo/radiation but in January he came out to CA to hunt with me in the SF bay. This trip was a night and day difference - my dad was back to his old self and back to enjoying life. I feel truly lucky to be able to share these experiences with my family. 10/10 he will be back in CA to hunt the NE Zone opener with me (on my birthday no less) - can't wait!!!
