        Department of Fish and Wildlife.

        Am I hunting:
        Ducks?
        In the condor zone?
        In a state Wildlife Area?
        In an Ecological Reserve?
        Nelson Bighorn sheep?

If the answer to all of the above is NO, you can use any ammo.

I should just make a flow chart.

Regarding the condor zone, feel free to educate yourself.

In short, it's not likely to be in the lead free area.
Unless you'll be hunting in a wildlife area or an ecological reserve.

And if you drive or park in a refuge or other non lead area you can't have any lead on you even if your not hunting......

Did you take hunter safety? DFW OR DFG should be a known thing if your hunting

You don't need lead free until next year for doves.

Not necessarily. We might be able to use Lead through 2018 for dove, quail and snipe if the DFG does not amend the implementation schedule.

Check with dfw there is an area north of blythe along the river that is state land and lead free ammo only. Also all the state lands in Imperial valley near niland are lead free.

Try the steel target loads if you are not sure about your area. I have been shooting steel on doves (by choice) for a couple of years now. I like it better than the lead loads, it has a denser pattern and frankly it seems to shoot better for me.

I am looking for some steel 12 gauge now. Best price I have found is $110 a case for 250 shells. I have 1500 lead shotshells.

Edgerly, I was at Phillips Wholesale in Covina about 2 months ago, and they had cases (250 shells) for $70. The were size 7 shot. If I remember correctly, they were Kent brand shells.
