    Raingear fail...

My well-used rain gear failed me during the "big storm" last month. I am ready to purchase a new set, but thought some input from the experienced dry and happy could be a good idea.

Use is moderate...depending on how often it rains. Type of use is mostly hiking. I would like to hunt more, but primary use is weekend hikes where I grab my compass, gps, dog, and snacks/water and set out for some nature time. Insulated I think is not necessary since we are rarely in the snow, and I can up my base layer(s) if we are going chilly.

It all started when training my dog as a puppy. I realized that the worse the weather, the more she loved it. And then after our hikes became regular, so did I. Our agreement is that at least once a week she gets a hike...weather is not a concern.

I invested in good Gore-tex gear a few years ago...and it is done. Works for a short rainy hike, but the water will start to come through in a persistent downpour.

Based on recommendations I have looked at Gore-Tex gear from:

    1.) Sitka
    2.) Cabelas Brand
    3.) KUIU

Please let me know if I am missing out on something and what you recommend. There is currently a good sale on Sitka at Cabelas, and I still have an unused gift certificate. The digi-camo pattern is awful, but I would rather be warm and dry at the conclusion of the day trek.

    Thank you in advance.

Try REI. I have gear from them from 30 years back (but I live in SoCal).
Need a picture of the dog.
    What breed or mix?

      Seam-sealer?
After watching WTC Bldg #7 being razed, and considering it's main occupants..

I stumbled onto this note while checking advanced weapons..
"911 = false flag. WTC 7 was brought down by demolition. 47 floors came down in 6 1/2 seconds - not hit by a plane. Just one of hundreds of absurdities that occurred that day. Wake up".

I got a set of Frogg Toggs that is an affordable option. I have worn the jacket once in the rain and it completely protected me while my backpack got soaked through while hiking. Haven't test out the pants yet but they look good, I didn't like that the hood cinch didn't come with a cord lock so I bought some off ebay and threw em on, it's great now. The only inconvenience is that they don't have pockets on this all sport rain suit, although on their higher end models they offer they have pockets.

Here's the set I bought, they are cheaper if you don't get em in camo

The best rain gear I've ever had was issued to me. I haven't found anything that beats my USGI gumby suit.

Try the products from nikwax. Awesome stuff. They have a product for every type of material available. I have even waterproofed my fleece pullovers.
