    Biolite Stove and Kettle Review

I have keeping my eye on this unit for a bit and stumbled upon a deal.

First off this is a fan powered rocket stove. After opening it up and charging the fan unit for six hour "conditioning" the battery I decided to fire the unit up.
Biolite recommends starting the fire with the fan off then starting the fan on low to get things going. FOr a first fire I used some paper and wood pellets. The unit fired up quickly and once it got going I fired up the unit onto high.

The unit puts out a good amount of air. The unit makes a high pitched whine when it runs so it is not super tactical as a bug out stove. The fire does come out of the unit and the high pitched whine would carry a ways. The noise is not offensive but you do notice it.

One thing that is interesting is that it does not take much fuel to run. I filled the 1.5l kettle up and had it heated very hot (near boil) for hot chocolate for the kids in about 7-8 minutes.

The Biolte unit nests into the kettle unit for protection and storage. As had been stated in other reviews I have seen the unit is a little heavy but no by much. I would not hesitate using it on a hiking trip as you don't need to carry fuel. To make things easy I would carry kindling and I will try using kindling rather than paper next time.

Overall I am very happy with the unit. There was some minor discoloring of the kettle and stove but that is to be expected. The build quality is nice and well made. The fan unit did not get hot and there was just a bit of ash left for the wood pellets. Overall I am happy with it. It is in between a hiking stove and for car camping but it does double duty well in my opinion. I plan on getting the kettle charger and grill next and giving them a go. Something nice about cooking with fire and there is little to any smoke. Worth the buy in my opinion.
