extreme cold clothing

My first time coming to this part of the forum, looking for some help for anyone that may know.

As a birthday gift this year my wife got me some tickets to a packers game in December on a Monday night. I am very excited but there is one thing that is concerning the whole group. We go now boarding and deal just fine with the cold in these conditions, but from everyone i talk to the cold there is no joke. I have heard it can get down to -11 degrees and without any activity, unlike snowboarding, that is brutal cold.

They gave us some ideas on what they wear specifically the base layer they swear by Hot chillys. While shopping around it is going to be about $80 for a full set. I am looking around and seeing that military use polypropylene.

any recommendations? brands? styles? and where to get them?

Merino wool base and mid-layer. Down parka if it's dry, synthetic fill parka it it's wet. Wear a warmy hat because much body heat loss occurs from the head. Polypro tights, like Hot Chillys, are fine for under the pants.

Bring another source of warmth if you are just going to be sitting and drinking.
Hand-warmers & mittens, microwavable seat cushions (LavaSeat), as big a down jacket as you can find and as little exposed as possible.
More base layers work better than just one expensive pair, no single brand will save you. Get what you can afford, big socks, big boots and no cotton.

Look at EBAY.Last year I found a Airforce cold weather mechanics jumpsuit for $20,soon ill be wearing it as the temps will drop.

i will have another long sleeve over the top, then i have a snowboard jacket that has a very thick removable inside with a waterproof shell, and insulated snowboard pants. I will have a stash of hand warmers with me in case i need them. I also picked up a pair of 800 gram waterproof boots and two beanies.

The game is on the monday night but we will be in town starting mid day on saturday, depending on how cold i get before hand i may also add a pair of jeans to the mix.

I also have an insulated face wrap and a scarf but i will put $ on the fact my wife will need to borrow those. When im snowboarding i usually just use a bandanna folded in half across my face and it usually keeps me in good shape (even in conditions where the outer layer freezes). I usually have a couple of the bandannas on my to swap out if they get to wet.

hopefully that should work. if not i will be drinking a lot of my usual cold drink Turkey with Snow Shoes (wild turkey and peppermint schnapps) always good for a little warmth in the chest.

Ive gone to a couple of Steeler games in the single digits. Its going to be key to keep your feet, hands and head warm. Use a balakava, use the instant heat packs and stick them in your shoes and pockets. Don't use cotton socks. Don't drink too much beer, its going to suck taking all that stuff off to take a piss. Have fun. After that game I felt like I had worked all day. Its tiring just staying warm.
