    Few Lake Recommendation Near Sierra/Sequoia

I'm planning to take 4-5 days off around oct just camping/fishing . I did some searching and wrote down few lakes members recommended .

    Onion Valley ( lake there ? )
    Weaver Lake
    Owen River

I dont mind minor offroading ( due to road condition , maybe less people there , which is plus for me )

    I prefer non camp sites

small game hunting will be plus . but not necessary ( but will be taking sidearm just in case )

are there better lakes worth to check out ? if you can just names some few , that'll be great ! I'll look up on google and find my way there .

    thanks

Lots of forest service land above Shaver Lake, east of Clovis. Wishon and Courtright lakes have some good fishing and lots of camping areas. That area is loaded with hunters right now though, so beware.

From the western slope, consider Brewer Lake. I don't know what the water level is right now but it's at the end of a 4WD road---easy hike but the last part is a challenge in a SUV. A nice little lake well off HWY 168. Good hiking to neighboring lakes too.

thanks for those spots ! those lakes seems to be very hot spots and big . but I did follow HWY 168 and found very small lake and looks to be very low key .

I found one from HWY 168 . looks to be somewhat very low key from those big popular lake ..

what do you think about the lake condition at this time of the year .. has anyone been to this spot ?

        here the spot

I can only guess but I would think water levels would be extremely low right now. If you go be sure to find out about current camp fire restrictions, it's likely a camp fire is a NO GO. It's a tinder box up there as you can see every night on your local news.

Not a good time of year for camping. Low water, no campfires, hunting season is in full swing.

Fire danger will be high anywhere in Ca.
Most likely no camp fires.Might have to cook with a propane stove/BBQ.

Take HWY 168 past Shaver and you will find a turn out for Red Lake/Coyote lake.4X4 required.
I think there is also Strawberry Lake near by.

                Might find some hunters there.

Onion valley..... Yes there's lakes there. I go there all the time, but you need to hike to them and they are above 10,000'. The first lake "Little pot hole" is about 1.5 miles from the very CROWDED parking lot. The next lakes go further back but if you're out of shape, it's strenuous and takes hours to get to. It's a back packers trip which leads to "Kearsarge pass." Extremely remote area and you're on your own. Make sure you have the right equipment. This time of year there's thunderstorms almost daily up there. Also, the Mosquitos are like hummingbirds and by the thousands there. Other than that, it's awesome.

If you want some easier access lakes, go further north. However as others said, the lakes are like mud holes in many places now.

Lake Sabrina is nice but very low water level. Still you can fish there and there are campgrounds in and around that area.
