    Desert shooting

Hello first time poster here. If I posted this in the wrong thread feel free to scold me. My friends and I are pretty new to the firearm scene and was planning on taking some of our new rifles to the desert.

My question is what should we bring to make it fun and helpful beyond the indoor ranges.
    I figured
    -our guns
    -ammo
    -targets
    -protective gear
    -chairs
    -a cooler
    -canopy
    -and a table
But I can't think of anything else
    Thanks in advance!

yes, please pick up your brass!
have fun out there but remember that the desert is a very big open place...and others could be out there without you seeing them. so make sure you have a good/safe backdrop.
only reason i say this is because i ride my dirtbike in the desert.
If you suck with irons you will suck with optics. The difference is the aimpoint will allow you to suck faster and a scope will give you a closer look at how much you suck.
AR's have finally become full blown "men's barbie dolls" now with fashion accessories.

Sunscreen, plenty of water, light jacket, depending on time of day and how long you will be out for.

        Shovel

        Fire making equipment

        Baby wipes and hand sanitizer

Good stakes for canopy (seen too many brand new ones get demolished by one gust of wind)...Cheap stakes and a gust of wind will make a waste of that 200 dollar canopy you just bought today...

              Water.
Safe targets: no glass, no exploding, bring them home with you.
              Water.
              No steel core ammo.
              Water.

              Have fun and be safe.
And please clean up after yourself.

Big tarps staked out can make cleaning up casings much easier.

Target stands that can be secured against the wind.

Sometimes a colored line or marking tape staked out to identify the firing line of your range can be nice.

Saw horse can be adapted for a pretty quick and easy rifle rack, tables get crowded pretty quickly.

Something to hand your target on! Something that will go home with you at the end of the day. I have used old cardboard boxes (add a few rocks and tape it up with targets taped to them, they work OK.

Steel targets are nice, but expensive and can get heavy.

Don't forget snacks! Once you get set up in a good place, you won't want to leave until you are done shooting.

                      Yes, and shovels for each.

Should you actually set a fire (yes, it happens even when complying with all laws and not doing stupid stuff), try to put it out with the extinguisher if possible. If it's gotten too big (it often starts far downrange), try to use shovels to clear land in front of fire. Trenching and denying the fire access to the fine duff that often lines the desert floor. Forget about trying to use your shovel for putting dirt on a fire or dumping your water on it and having any effect. Make sure you have an escape route if trying to contain it and use it before you are trapped. If it gets out of hand, call in the firefighters, stick around and talk with the BLM or forest service ranger. They'll want to take a report.

                      Be safe. Be responsible.

Don't ever clean out the garage of brick a brack/ lamps glass or plastic (stuff) to shoot at. We actually were very embarassed by leos from area near 57fwy and 210 bringing a half of a garage full of this shxt and a fully automatic weapon that one of the leos signed out . We went in separate vehicles thank the lord and they left all their shxt there in Jawbone Canyon. Hispanic leo trash.

Bring a strong rope or a chain incase you get stuck on a sandy road.
