We just came back from a camping trip on the North Coast. Such a cool (literally) place.

This post reminds me I need to invest in a percolator.

Got that perk at a yard sale for 5 bucks ....works great on the 40 year old Colman stove, but takes forever on the camp fire

Perfect Jeep, sliding in on a Sunday and not having to deal

I hate percolators. They are hard to fiddle with, have to be level to function properly, etc. Find an old aluminum "Drip" coffee pot OP. Much much faster. Easier to heat water in a pan or larger porcelain or stainless coffee pot rather than having to boil (perk) it. Pour it in and you're done. I make extra hot water for Hot Chocolate, cup-a-noodles, oatmeal, etc. Much faster and easier than a percolator, IMO anyway, and I LIKE MY COFFEE !!!

You can find them at yard sales, swapmeets etc. Mine looks similar to this one...

and I heat water in one of these since you can set it right on the morning coals or a stove burner.

i like the perk works fine for me , never have had a problem with them ... and this one keeps the coffee hot for a long time and will last forever , unlike the alum ones you get from big 5, and if i wanted to just heat water i would just use a french press

Thank you for this post OP. It brought back many, many great memories and I can smell the campsite now... Think I will call my mom and talk about dad...
