    Legal to carry in Inyo national Park?

    Tried reading the laws on the first page but i wasn't sure if they were still up to date since it was posted in 2010 and it was pretty confusing to say the least. My friend is going to camp and hike up around June Lake and was wondering if he can carry his handgun?

    I dont think its legal. I recently summited mt whitney. When we picked up our permits, the ranger told us once we hit Trail Crest it turns into Inyo National Park and firearms are no longer legal to carry.

      You can carry it unloaded in a secure, locked container. I use a Nano vault, small and fits in a pack.

      Inyo National Park? When did that happen and are there new fees? What are the borders of this new park?

        Good to know since I will be summiting Mt. Whitney friday the 13th, and was planning on bringing my handgun. I will be car camping in the parking lot instead of getting a motel before I do my solo hike.

        So, question: is it ok to have a firearm in my car while car camping the night before? I will be leaving my firearm in the car once I start my hike.

        Thanks for the info.

          From their FAQ on the Inyo website:

          "The Inyo National Forest does restrict the use of firearms in some areas. Discharging a firearm or any other implement capable of taking human life, causing injury or damaging property is prohibited:

          In or within 150 yards of a residence, building, campsite, developed recreation area or occupied area;

          across or on a Forest Development road, hiking trail or body of water adjacent therto, or in any manner or place whereby any person or property is exposed to injury or damage as a result of such discharge;

          Within the wilderness, firearm use is not allowed except for emergencies and lawful hunting (as allowed by State law)."

          It doesn't sound like they prohibit having firearms, just the typical firearms use restrictions.

            I don'y think that there is an Inyo Park, but Inyo Wilderness, like other wilderness areas that require a permit, stipulates no firearms discharge within the wilderness areas, during non-hunting season. Call the ranger station and ask for current restrictions. PAX

              Don't quote me on this, but I believe National Parks allow carry of handguns if you were allow to carry in the said state. (e.g. You need a CCW here in California).
              But discharging firearms is generally illegal, also avoid buildings with no gun signs.

                Into is a national forest. Not a national park. All national forest laws apply.

                  First June lake isn't Inyo county its in mono county. I believe the June area has a Mono county ordnance reguarding firearms.
