Looks like they headed on to Oregon, was at ft Bragg on the 19th and now in Oregon, apparently in cold rain as of this time yesterday
Trying to find work in exchange for food/board which is their apparent method since they started, trying to get in touch with some organic farm there to see about working a bit

Luck,
been there done that. Late 60's prior to Army enlistment. Bay Area to Vancouver ,Stanley Park, then home.
Builds Character, but you have to watch out for pervs
I booked in as a sleeper at Port Townsend PD ,good part was they spotted me breakfast in the AM

Apparently their goal is to hike through every state
They started feb 24
Oklahoma, Texas, then in cloudcraft New Mexico on mar 18
Arizona state line in mar. 23
Cali on mar 26

Not sure if they are trying to hit every state or not

Looks like they skip through using homeless shelters where they find them
I don't consider that appropriate use of shelters

Oh, leave them alone. A little suffering and adventure won't hurt them. Sounds like they'll learn some good life lessons like:
Have a plan
The world could care less if you starve to death
Don't get stuck in a city park
You will survive
No one rides for free
Sucking the welfare teat is bitter
Bein down and out sucks
Honest work is rewarded
Never accept a ride from a drunk perv
Knowing how to fish is awesome

And countless others. I'm glad they are safe and uncomfortable. As a parent, of course I think your relatives friend, the PARENT, should buy her kid a bus ticket home, once, and only after he is crying, and make him work it off.

Some of the most responsible, hardworking and upstanding citizens I know spent similar days in their youth.

You can fish off the piers or in the ocean. You ever been to the City? Unless you come up from San Jose, you have to cross bridges over WATER. There's a fly fishing club in the park, PAX

They're already in Oregon
They certainly could have planned a bit better and taken portable fishing equip or something, they didn't even take a solar charger
I'd actually be interested in seeing what they did take and the original plan
