Camping

I have this unstoppable itch to go camping. I live in San Diego, and I'd be up for driving up to say 200 miles. I'm looking for a place that's quiet, where I can sit by my campfire and plink at cans with my Ruger Mk. III. Any ideas? I just need to get out for a while.

Check out the strip of desert on the 15 between Barstow and Baker. Calico is a fav BLM spot of mine and it's 2.5 hours from my house with no traffic. That might be a little far for you though.

Lots of places in Imperial Valley. Colorado River area between Glamis and Blythe is a good place. You can camp along the river on the Ca. or Az. side. Walter's Camp road will get you to the river. The guys at the office can tell you where to cross the river to AZ. side. Good spots east of Niland as well towards the Chocolate mountains. Careful of the naval range.
