Camping and Shooting: Locations Near Los Angeles Area

    Hi All,

First off, I'm a newbie here and I hope I am posting this in the right section.

A few buddies and myself are new to the guns scene, and are looking for some good spots near the Los Angeles that can be used for both camping and shooting. The plan is to find a spot where we can camp for the weekend, and be able to shoot without breaking any rules.

Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

You're not going to find much of anything near Los Angeles unfortunately.

      Hey TML,

No surprise there. Do you or any members know of any good spots not too far off, perhaps within a 100 miles?

To be honest I don't think you will find a known place within 100 miles. When I was younger there was some OHV trails we used to shoot at in the night in Santa Clarita, but that was maybe 10 years ago... These days you either travel, or just find a seemingly secluded place, and risk it. If you find anything please share! Good luck.

          camp/shoot

You used to be able to do both up in Big Bear,Holcomb valley I think it was called? You could ride ATVs as well... Anyone know if you can anymore? It was an awesome area!

Didn't find much on Holcomb Valley, unfortunately.

I did find this thread on Google: "A place to go camping and shooting?". Its five years old, but the Copper City Road in Barstow that is mentioned sounds perfect (provided nothing has been shut down).

A couple of last resort locations I found using the links in that thread are A Place To Shoot and Lytle Creek Firing Range. Gotta pay the fees but they are closer and there are campgrounds nearby.

Just past Barstow on I 15. Lots of places to pull off and head into the desert.

Thank you for the heads up. Do you know if those places are accessible by car, or is a truck/SUV required?

OK, it's not in El Lay...but I stumbled onto this the other day and it looks interesting:

The Shotgun Center has 80 50-amp, full-service hook-up, pull-through RV sites. The fee is $20 day with a 14-day stay maximum. Reservations may be made through the Range Office during the week, or on weekends at the Shotgun Center. Campers must be actively involved with shooting. They may shoot on the rifle-pistol, archery or shotgun ranges, or be participating in a shooting event.
How would you like a personalized, custom made holster or gun bag? PM me!

Thanks Bill! Definitely not close nor cheap on gas, but man that sounds like a sweet place to spend a few days.

It's kinda 50/50. As you go north I get off and head west (left side of freeway) some roads are firm and others sandy.

I am not a gambler myself so this is a good excuse for me to go to Vegas.

Of course, there is also the Pinball Museum......
