Is this the place listed as no water & no utilities? I've been watching a listing and would love to know the back story / history.

If I was so inclined as to pack up and move asap I would set up a ger/yurt and start on a well planned earthbag home. Although I would be more than happy living in a yurt all the time.

        As mentioned...yurt.

The tiny house blog is a good place to read up on cost effective housing.

PC, did you see in that listing that the property type was "recreational" and zoning was "UNbuildable"...

I'm guessing that the property is a camp style zone for seasonal use...

Don't know what your budget is, but you might consider a home/shelter built out of shipping containers. They can be bought for relatively little money, and some fairly elaborate shelters can be built depending on your budget and desires. They also can be made to be relatively secure in the event you aren't living there full time.

There are ways to fix/mitigate radon. Easiest with an earthbag or in ground home is to use a vapor barrier in the flooring and along the walls that are buried as a moisture barrier/radon retarder. You can also build a vent pipe/fan with schedule 40 from the gravel layer if you so choose. Radon test kits are only like $10. Keep in mind it is alot easier and inexpensive to guard against radon during new construction.

Buy property with underground water. Drill a well and then have them deliver a log cabin house kit in the spring. By winter you'll be living in your house.
