Anyone ever taste cat or dog? I'm being serious.

Just wondering what they taste like. You never know when a pet or stray domestic animal might be a "MRE" for you and the family. (ie huge natural disaster zone, major war on the homeland etc...)

During WW II, my passed away father said he ate horse meat as a child because grandma couldn't afford beef. He said it tasted good. I know that there is a CG member that jerks coyote too (gag).

Just curious if anyone has tried cat or dog.

Yes, while on bus in North Vietnam, we passed sign that read 'Today's Special: Dog'. Others said it tasted more delicious than pork. I disagreed.

While in Japan, went to a restaurant that served horsemeat stew. It wasn't bad, but i'm sure the stew gravy masked the true flavor.

When living in the Philippines many summers of my childhood, we'd go out to the countryside. Often the neighbors would invite us to eat with them. On more than one occasion we had dog. Once again, the meat flavor was masked by the sauces. But the texture was much like pork.

Yes to both. I found the cat had a mineral flavor to it, a bit like liver likely had more to do with it's diet than anything else.

I've had dog more times than I care to count. Taste & texture are a lot like goat.

          This thread is awesome.

The craziest thing I have eaten is buffalo burgers, turtle soup, snake jerky, alligator and a lot of jackrabbits and cottontail rabbits. Cat and dog is on my to do list.

Growing up, there was this Szechuan joint that we used to frequent, I always thought the 'pork' had a weird taste to it. They got pinched by the Health Dept for skinned cat carcasses in their dumpster.

Dogs, pythons, boars , sea turtles, water buffalo, tiger sharks and monkey are some of the exotics I've tasted. No kidding about the monkey, my Pa shot one in a jungle in the Philippines with 22lr back in the early 80's. It took 9 hits before it drop to the ground. My grandpa butchered /cut the meat into strips and dried it in the sun. We then grilled the dried jerkey.

I served a year in Korea while in the Army. I'm 99.9% sure the meat in the street vendor "pot stickers" was dog. It wasn't bad, but it was heavily seasoned too.

Nope, no dog or cat. Warthog and crocodile, yes.

Just based on odds I would guess I had either dog or cat while in Thailand and China.

While in Thailand, I was eating at a restaurant watching TV (every single restaurant in Thailand has a TV on usually playing bootleg movies) there was a cooking show on. They were cooking cat. They even showed how to slaughter it.

The lady was petting the cat all friendly and then bam she whacked it on the head with a butcher knife turned side ways. slit it's throat, drained the blood, dipped it in boiling water, skinned it, gutted it, butchered it, cooked it in a stew.

It is the only tv show I vividly remember watching those 3 months in Thailand.

I have eaten all manners of animals. Dogs, cat, rat, snake, water buffalo, bison, zebra, gazelle, giraffe, lion, hippo, horse, pigeon, llama, squirrel, rabbit etc. Some things taste better than others and some times I get seconds. I didn't care for cat or horse but lion and zebra were tasty. Some dog tastes better than others.
Some people will do skanky things for $25, and not all those people are crack whores.

                              Does french kissing count?

My dog would give me these tongue-kisses when I was eating, since she loved the food so much (me a little bit).
