PLACES To SHOOT around Groveland Tuolumne

I loved lumpsden, but it’s closed and the road off it is now closed till April 15th as usual. I love PML shooting range but it’s a range and you can’t play Rambo. Looking for a spot where I can safely set up steel plates for 100 meters max. Thank you!

South of HWY 120 and SR 132 intersection (Smith Station Road) are a lot of NF dirt roads and dispersed camping, mingled with private land, all along the way to the north fork of the Merced River, on the way to Greely Hill. Then 132 west turns to BLM below Coulterville. The BLM road gets steep to start then flattens a little along a side hill. Not too many long range rifle spots until Hunters point on the south side of McClure, but you're and hour from Groveland by then. Get a Stanislaus Forest Service map. It'll show private, BLM and NF dirt toads but no contour. They have closures because of fire hazard at times. There used to be shooting at The Spinning Wheel off 120 at Rainbow Pool. Take the Mather Road, when it crosses the Middle fork of the Tuolumne, about 3/4 miles from HWY120, the road goes uphill and there's a right (east) turn. It dead ends in about 4 miles at a fire camp barracks. NF dirt all a round, but they've built some big homes on the way in and those folks might be cranky.. Side note: there's remnants of an Olympic size pool, leftovers from a 30's mobster hotel that burnt down. PAX

echo1 Thank you, somebody told me about sawmill mountain road spot, drove to the top to a sign that said the vehicles past this point are prohibited, but did not find any spent casings anywhere nor did I find safe spot to shoot along the road either. Do know anything about that are ? Thank you.
