    Mushroom foraging

So who likes to mushroom forage in NorCal . I was duck hunting a creek the other day and ended up with5# of oyster mushrooms . We find lots of corals and slippery jacks hunting in the fall and like to chase the snow line for morels .

Knowledgeable people can forage for mushrooms, but as a teenager I lost a friend to foraging gone wrong (they ended up eating water hemlock, along with their boyfriend). For me, I mostly avoid the risk. Which sucks because it seems cool, but that’s a bad way to die.

      Wow .
sorry to hear that . Part of foraging that is so cool is it requires a huge amount of knowledge to do it safely .

#1 rule of mushroom foraging is to only go after mushrooms you are 100% certain are edible. Even if you have the slightest doubt of what it is you leave it!
it’s morel and spring king season in the Sierras right now, some of the best gourmet edibles in the world!

Very true . I’ve found chanterelles and most bollete varieties are almost impossible to miss id . So a few bring home and consult will help solidify ids .
also coral and cauliflower are great harvests .
