Nevada City shooting areas?

Greetings:
Heading up to Nevada City next month with a couple of new toys. Does anyone know of an open area (BLM, US Forest, etc.) an hour or less from N.C. or Grass Valley to do some .22 and shot gunning? FYI, I am a "pack it in, pack out more" kinda guy. I despise those lowlife slobs who leave their crap for others to remove.

There really isn't much in the area for this type of thing that I am aware of. I have been out by Foresthill off Finning mine road with friends but that would be a scoot from NC. I'm fortunate enough to have property so I don't have to go anywhere.

Thought there was a public range there, used to hear the shooting from grandparents house.
