    New Ruger 10/22 "TakeDown"

This showed up in my Turner's email newletter, and on the rimfire forum here, but I'm surprised it hasn't popped up here... Thoughts? Seems like something perfect for a BOB backpack when a pistol doesn't quite do it for getting dinner. Or maybe, having to walk from work 20 miles home due to a quake. Could almost live in the trunk.

I have always liked the 10-22 as a kid and junior adult. I recently looked at the "new improved" 10-22 and it was not so hot. The guard is plastic and everything seemed so cheap and poorly fitting. The plastic stock was even worse.

Might want to look at it before buying. JMO

It does look like a good idea I just hope they didnt cheap out really bad on quality.

          I still prefer these: http://www.henryrepeating.com/rifle-survival-ar7.cfm

I have an older one that has worked really well. Accurate out to 30/50 yds. Plenty for small game.

Might be worth checking out. I know one of the appealing aspects of the 10/22 is all the after market parts. I hope that at least the receiver's internals & the trigger group are standard 10/22 parts that could easily be updated/replaced.

I've had good luck with my 10/22's, both stock & updated - hope these would be decent. I don't care for plastic either but it is lightweight & might serve its purpose.

Got mine today. The quality seems to be better than the regular run-of-the-mill 10/22, but the fit and finish is no Browning takedown rifle. Then again, neither is the price.

I take it that you're limited to that stock and barrel. Not sure how you would put a Hogue Overmolded stock onto that if you wanted to use one (which is what I prefer on 10/22's), unless you cut it perfectly at the same spot and somehow incorporate the release lever/button into it.

They make it seem like it's a rare item to where they are only going to stock 500 and then that's it from Ruger. Yet, their ad says normal price is $20 more than their sale price, so it's not like a "must got & get right now" kind of gun IMO.

I have a 10/22 that I cut the stock down to 28 inches, out of the stock I can fit it in most bags though it does take more a 1/8th turn to be ready to rock.

I really like the idea of a take-down 10-22! Terrific gun especially if you already own a stash of "pre-ban" 25 rd magazines.
I've personally have never found the various AR-7s to be anywhere near as reliable as any 10-22.

I dig the 10-22! Grew up shooting one and still do. Pretty cool idea. I'm going to wait for reviews, but I think Ruger has a winner here.

A while back I got a "stainless" Ruger 10/22 for a friend. The receiver was painted stainless color :-(. Not impressed with recent versions as others have said, I would take a really close look at it and see how cheaply it is made.

The new ones are just as nice as the old. I traded a 10/22 I bought in 1980 that started jamming for a new target model. Yea the plastic trigger assembly was a worry at first, but the rifle works just as well as my first one did in the 80's.

My brother bought the regular 10/22 stainless model about six months ago and it's nicely built for what it is. I checked out this "Takedown" version yesterday and was impressed enough to order one, especially since I don't own a .22LR rifle. While not a fan of black/plastic stocks, it makes a lot of sense here for something that has to be light and which may get rained on.

Did you notice if the receiver is stainless? The ad mentions a stainless barrel, but does not say anything about the receiver. The last "stainless" one I saw actually just had a painted receiver.

NOTE: I called Ruger to ask about the receiver and was told that the receiver is Aluminum, NOT stainless. That seems a bit deceptive to me, to say the least.
