need suggestions.

I am trying to get a couple buddies together for a small backpacking/small game hunting trip. I was thinking of getting dropped off by the lytle creek range and walking back in the hills up that way. I was thinking it would be a good trip, but not to sure about any small game up there. I will probably bring the 17hmr and the guys will have the 22lr. Is there any suggestions on alternate locations to backpack in and set up camp with small game in the are.

OK, to be clear, I am not asking for a hunting location, but a good scenic backpacking trail where I can set up camp and have a small fire

Because few people hike here, fewer in socal, fewer in lytle creek.
