    Nice Tool for your GHB

I stumbled across this while looking for a pair of pliers.

Looks pretty cool. The video makes it look way too easy to open a locked door. However this tool looks to be way more inconspicuous than a dedicated pry bar.

Looks like they are about $40-$50.

Well it's a nice tool, but it doesn't belong in a BoB or GHB.

It can break glass. OK. So can a rock, or a number of other tools I carry.

It can loosen fire hoses. OK. Cool. In your BoB? No.

It can shut off your gas main. OK. Good to have at home, if you don't have a Crescent wrench. Again, in your BoB? Why?

Pliers and wire cutters. OK. Good. But I already have those, and I don't want this giant heavy version in my pack.

Pry-bar. OK. So that makes 3 of it's 6 functions that you might need.

Did you read the specs MudCamper??? It's 10" long and weighs 1.6lbs....

The window punch is much better than a rock, and there is no guarantee a suitable rock will always be lying in just the right spot if and when you need it.

Regarding the gas wrench, it's not a "I'm at home bag". It can be valuable in a situation where you are at work or need to take shelter on the way home.

This tool in your trunk says emergency/utility whereas a pry bar can be seen a suspicious?

Show me something that is more useful in an equally compact and lightweight package.

That tool is geared more towards firefighters and many already carry similar tools like that in their turnout gear.

1)The spanner wrench for hose couplings.
Depending how tight the couplings are you'll need 2 wrenches to undo the couplings unless you were hooking up to a fire hydrant..the video shows them hooking up to the pump panel on a fire engine. And unless you're carrying 1-3/4" or 2-1/2" or 4" hose and a nozzle with you to hook up to a fire hydrant that part is useless.
            2)The window punch.
FF's use one to punch out windows during extrication on traffic collisions.
You could carry a punch the size of a pen in your BOB.
            3)The gas shut off.
FF's usually shut of gas and electrical on structure fires.
I'm sure most of us already have a gas shut-off tool at home..even a crescent wrench can do the same thing.
            4)The pliers.
FF's normally carry pliers. I would think most of us would have some pliers or a multi-tool in our bags.
5)The cutters. FF's usually cut the battery cables on a vehicle while on a t/c to disable the vehicle's ability to operate. And they normally carry wire cutters to free themselves if they ever get trapped in a structure fire. This is a big one with FF's..the ability to free oneself should you get caught in a bunch of wires, etc. They teach this in FF survival training.
6)The prying tool. FF's carry much bigger forcible entry tools. Though this could help in prying open a window or door..maybe. If you really needed to get in wouldn't you break the window or kick in the door? Just remember..try before you pry!!

So would I buy this? No. You could carry a good multi-tool or some wire cutters/pliers/crescent wrench among a few other small tools and do the same thing..and for much less money.
