I may just be late or misinformed, but there was a special that predated the series wasn't there?

Also, I appreciate that the show will be presenting a broad spectrum of prepping 'archetypes'.

      I don't remember the time I was human that's why I don't understand anybody.
The sound of a cat puking is the most effective alarm clock.
There's danger lurking around every corner, that's why I propose we make all of our buildings round.

These are usually pretty good shows. They usually mention what the major apocalypses might be --

            - viral outbreak like influenza

            - super-hurricane

            - earthquake

            - terrorist nuke

They also visualize trying to get out of town on the freeway when everyone else has exactly the same idea, then ending up stranded and out of gas, then the fire fights, then the cannibalism, then finally the next generation who grows up like nothing ever happened.

            Usually pretty good.

I saw a quick preview of this today, it looked like they found the extreme end of the spectrum to interview. I was at work, so I only caught the gas mask wearing folks

I may check it out... could be informative, or very entertaining

Yeah, there was another show on this back in September. Search this forum for Nat Geo and you will find Youtube links to the hour long show.

I watched a few of the clips on the website, thanks for the link btw, and the Producers and Editors are still doing film cuts to change the contect or asking questions in ways to provide ridiculing response or positions.

In one of the clips on the website, the woman says her boyfriend would kill the cat. That was her answering a question. But rather than leaving it there, the scene was cut, and then it comes back from a different angle and she shows you where to place the gun to kill the cat. Can't you just see the Producer asking that woman to show him where she would shoot the cat. Then if he didn't like the way it showed, he would say something like "sorry, I dont understand, say it again so I can understand it"...and so on until he got the properly dramatic answer.

While yes, some of them are further down the uh... "trail" than you or I may be, I doubt they are as crude, unintelligent or as dramatic as the show presents them as.

Now ask yourself why theNatGeo crew does that.

The Producer from the last show admitted in his own blog that these people were crazy and he wanted to show it.

Imagine if they came into your house and misrepresented you and your efforts.

So, don't jump on the bashing band waggon against like minded preppers. Support them and bash the NatGeo jagoffs that are mis-representing a sub-culture which you yourself belong to...

I didn't mean to sound "Bashy", all I caught earlier today was the gas mask images. I just watched a couple of the videos in the link, looks like it could be interesting

                    Hey 11HE9,

Wasn't directed at anyone in particuliar. Just saying it out loud as bashing of the people in the shows has happened in previous threads.

As a side note, what was your ride when you played with the TOWs? I spent a few years in 2nd Cav wtih the HMMWV. Since I was an 11 bang bang in a Cav unit, they kept me on the 50's and Mk19s.

I started out on M901ITVs, saw a few M151s (Jeeps), played with FAVs for a couple years (dune buggies), then finally got to beat on the HMMWVs.

I was in '82-'92, moved around a lot. I miss the toys

Whether the show has pointless content or is complete garbage, I'll still watch it since it still has to do with preparedness ideas & concepts.

Regardless of how bad a show or reading is, there's usually something useful that you might be able to pickup and incorporate into your setup or lifestyle.

Fly on the wall inside of the Editors office:

"Hey Bill I have a great idea for a new TV show."

                          "Yeah whats that?"

"Well.... lets get a bunch of fat, stupid gun owners and make them look even more stupid and dangerous to the gen pop. Maybe we can even add kids shooting guns to show how nuts they are."

                          "Wow, that sounds great!"

It's all in the way it's edited and narrated.

Firearms are a small part of prepping for ANY emergency...Personal agenda is quite apparent in how these shows portray their characters...remember it's a show.

The most important message in any Prep show should be for self sufficiency...If that includes hunting for food and personal protection it should be put into context. Important info to everyone is about fuels, food storage, Hygene, medicine, first aid, fresh water, shelter, clothing and other basic necessities that will not be provided in such a situation.

I for one have only seen some of the doomsday, prepping, etc. show by Nat Geo. It would be interesting to see this series.
