Coleman Fuel $9.96/gal at Wal Mart

I have seen it elsewhere for $13-$15/gal.

$9.96 at Wally yesterday so I picked up a gallon. I'm wondering if I should go back and get more.

Just to let you know depending on what kind of lantern or stove you have. (I both have the Coleman dulefule lantern and stove you can use regular unleaded gas)Much cheaper. But that is a good price for the Coleman fule.

I was just in my local Wally world yesterday... I grabbed a few lantern mantels, I didn't even think of grabbing fuel

I'm not out, but having extra is always a good idea

Anyone else ever make their own sterno? All you need is denatured alcohol, unflavored tums and vinegar. They're very cheap ingredients and make a pretty useful product and each stores by itself almost indefinitely.

Do you have an exact recipe or link please?

None of mine are dual-fuel. The newest juice guzzler I have is dated 1990. I know I can run them on unleaded, but prefer the cleaner naptha-based fuel. The shelf life of Colemen fuel is eons longer than gasoline, too.

I had not bought any fuel in several years and was surprised at the prices I was seeing. $10 seemed like a good deal. I'll probably pick up a couple more gallons.

Denatured alcohol (ethyl / methyl mixed, can use 95% plain ethyl or methyl too).

Tums must have 1000mg CalCarb per tablet.
Vinegar must be white vinegar of 4.5% acidity

Crush tums to powder. Mix 10ml vinegar per tums tablet (ie, 10ml:1g vinegar:calcarb) and allow the fizzing to stop. Leave to sit overnight or heat at < 100F till 50% of the liquid has evaporated. Pour alcohol into a mixing container and SLOWLY add the slurry of vinegar and calcarb while continuously stirring. When it hits your desired consistency, enjoy.

here's a link describing the same exact process and showing it in a video.

Walmart prices are both seasonal (certain items) and regional (most items).

I have seen those for $9.96 at one place and $8.88 about 25 miles away in another Walmart.

I know the prices vary by region. They also had it in plastic quart bottles for $6.99. I had never seen it in a quart size before. I guess I need to get out more.

You do not need dual-fuel. All you need is unleaded gas. It works fine and does NOT clog anything. It is much cheaper too.

i picked up a gallon a while back. Its about the only place i can find it around here. They have the plastic quarts too but they are a rip off 7-8 bucks for a 1/4 gallon!!!.
I use to use unleaded but noticed it left more carbon on the generator. As little as i use the lantern i'll just stick to coleman fuel

I like the long shelf life. Coleman says 5-7 years in an unopened container or 2 years if opened. I know I have used fuel from an opened container that was nearly 10 years old without any problems.

There is no way unleaded gas will last that long.

Then why the need for the "dual-fuel"? Is it just marketing or is something else different?

I buy this all the time for my camp stove and lantern. A gallon lasts a long time.
